Maarten Janssen is Professor of Microeconomics at the University of Vienna and Erasmus University Rotterdam and co-founder of ECRI. His research focuses on game theory and the theory of industrial organisation. In this field, he has mainly focused on problems concerning asymmetric information in markets, consumer search and auctions. On these topics he has published in the leading international journals, such as Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Economic Theory, International Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Industrial Economics, European Economic Review. He has conducted international research and teaching activities in Belgium (University of Louvain), France (Sorbonne), the United States of America (Duke University) and Russia (Higher School of Economics, Moscow). He was recently involved in various consulting activities. He led certain large scale research projects on the use of auctions by governments, including an evaluation of the Dutch UMTS-auction for the Dutch Parliament. He advised competition authorities and private companies in antitrust cases in sectors such as the market for motor fuels, bicycles, electricity and mobile telephony.
